HearStorySpot is built on a simple idea:
History Lives on In the Places we Walk by Every Day

We create place-based storytelling experiences that allow people to hear the stories of a location exactly where they happened. Whether you follow a full walking tour or discover a single stop by chance, each story is designed to stand on its own—inviting you to pause, listen, and connect.

Our work focuses on the histories that are often overlooked, misrepresented, or erased—especially the communities who helped build our cities but were not always remembered in them.

Even when buildings are gone, these places still hold memory.

HearStorySpot is one way of making that memory audible.

Our Approach

  • Place-first storytelling
Every story begins with location. You don’t have to imagine where history happened—you’re already standing in it.
  • Accessible and self-guided
No tickets, no schedules, no required starting point. Each story is a complete experience, whether it’s your first or your fifth.
  • Community-driven narratives
We center the voices, families, and histories of people who lived these stories—not just the institutions that recorded them.

Why It Matters

Traditional preservation often depends on what still stands.

But what about the places that were erased?
The neighborhoods that were displaced?
The stories that were told incorrectly—or not at all?

We believe preservation can also mean telling the truth, in the place where it happened.

Our Story

HearStorySpot was founded by a sixth-generation Denverite and descendant of Chinese railroad foreman Chin Lin Sou and community advocate Jimmy Chin.

Her family’s history is woven into Colorado’s story—from building the rail lines that helped cities grow, to preserving community history, to creating gathering places that brought people together across generations.

This project is both personal and collective:
a way to honor that history while creating space for others to share their own.
